POWER MOMENT WEDNESDAY Beloved, there is a difference between hearing and listening to God. Simply put, it’s a difference between a sound passing through your ears and a message taking root in your heart.“The Distinction”To HEAR is a physiological act. In our spiritual lives, we hear God all the time—through the word and his “still small voice” that pricks our conscience. To LISTEN is a relational act. It is an intentional, posture-driven choice to pay attention, to process, and to respond. LISTENING requires a SURRENDER of the ego, a quieting of our own internal noise, and a willingness to be changed by what is being said. The Biblical PatternConsider the life of Samuel. As a young boy in the temple, he heard a voice calling his name. Three times he heard it, but he did not yet know how to listen. It was only when Eli instructed him to change his posture—to stand ready and say, “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10)—that he moved from mere hearing to an active, life-changing encounter called LISTENING. Moving from Hearing to ListeningHow do we bridge this gap?1. Shift Your Posture: Approach God not as a consumer of information, but as a servant awaiting instruction. 2. Practice Stillness: We live in a noisy world. If we are constantly filling our minds with external input, we lose the ability to distinguish God’s voice. Silence is the environment where hearing becomes listening.3. Commit to Obedience: Do what it says.” When we listen to God, we are agreeing to act on what He reveals.NUGGET: Hearing God is a privilege, but listening to God is a pursuit.
