“Power Moment Wednesday”

Power Moment Summer Series

Power Moment Wednesday 10/11/23

Beloved, Let’s take a look at a well-known passage from the Bible, specifically from the New Testament:

Listen to Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 3:5-6. New King James Version

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall [a]direct your paths.

APPLICATION:

The book of Matthew, chapter 5, verses 9-10 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Nugget: The Importance of Peacemaking and Persecution for Righteousness

1. The Value of Peacemaking: Jesus begins by saying, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” This highlights the importance of actively seeking peace and resolving conflicts in our relationships, communities, and the world. Peacemakers are those who work towards reconciliation, understanding, and harmony, rather than promoting division, hostility, or violence. By being peacemakers, we align ourselves with God’s will and reflect His character.

2. Identification as Children of God: Jesus states that peacemakers will be called “children of God.” This implies that those who actively pursue peace are seen as reflecting the nature of God, who is the ultimate source of peace. By engaging in peacemaking, we demonstrate our connection to God and our commitment to His teachings.

3. Persecution for Righteousness: Jesus continues by saying, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness.” This highlights the reality that those who live according to God’s principles may face opposition, ridicule, or even persecution. However, Jesus assures that despite the challenges faced by the righteous, they will inherit the kingdom of heaven.

4. The Kingdom of Heaven: Jesus emphasizes that the kingdom of heaven belongs to those who endure persecution for righteousness. This reminds us that our ultimate reward is not necessarily immediate worldly success or recognition, but rather an eternal inheritance in God’s kingdom. It encourages us to persevere in doing what is right, even in the face of adversity.

Overall, this passage teaches us the importance of actively pursuing peace, being identified as children of God through our peacemaking efforts, and understanding that persecution for righteousness is a part of the Christian journey. It reminds us to remain steadfast in our commitment to God’s principles, knowing that our ultimate reward lies in the kingdom of heaven.
